My heart really lies with Kukele-Boe!
In the Brediuspark you will find animal meadow Kukele-Boe. In the animal meadow, which has now become an integral part of the Bredius Park, goats can be petted, chickens can be fed and birdwatched. In addition, fun activities take place regularly. There is always something to see or do. And that is all made possible by a permanent group of people, a large part of which are volunteers. Sharon is one of those volunteers. She works two or three days a week at the Kukele-Boe animal pasture.
“I've always enjoyed working with people and animals. Of course I can do that in full here. I love working with those animals. For example, to train them. Or to make things nice and clean for them. In addition, it is fantastic to receive and help all those visitors. Wanting to help others has always been in me. I've tried very hard to find this in various paid jobs, but I'm more at home here as a volunteer than I've been at any other job. Here I have blossomed after a difficult period. My heart really lies with Kukele-Boe!”
My heart really lies with Kukele-Boe!
“As a volunteer I do a number of different things at Kukele-Boe. I am very much involved in the activities: the Easter egg hunt during Easter, the nativity scene around Christmas and the craft activities for example. When there are no activities, I take care of the animals. I always try to get animals used to people as soon as possible after arrival. That is nice for the animals and for the visitors of course. And if extra hands are needed elsewhere, I will of course also help. Nice to roll up your sleeves and mow the grass, for example. There are even more volunteers at Kukele-Boe. For example, we have two volunteers who do a lot of construction work. The major renovation, which we are now in the middle of, is being done entirely by them. In addition, there are a few younger girls walking around who help us a lot. Together it is a nice, diverse and pleasant club of people!”

Priscilla and Rene
The volunteers of the Toytheek Playotheek Woerden is located in the Community School, opposite the Tournoysveld shopping center. Anyone can become a member and borrow all kinds of toys for a small amount. The range is huge and very diverse. You can come here for puzzles, board games, LEGO, dolls, Playmobil, outdoor toys or even a large bouncy castle. Priscilla and René are volunteers at the Speelotheek and ensure that the members can enjoy everything the Speelotheek has to offer carefree. Priscilla: “The great thing about the Toy Library is that it is an affordable and environmentally friendly way to try out all kinds of toys. How often do parents buy expensive toys that end up unused in the closet after a while? Such a shame… At the Speelotheek, members pay a 17.50 annual membership fee, as well as a small amount per borrowed item. In exchange, they can borrow all kinds of toys all year round for a maximum of three weeks in a row. The children always have new toys to play with and the parents do not have to worry about expensive toys that disappear unused in the cupboard: a win-win situation!” The fact that the children really enjoy it at home and come back even more often is a great reward! René: “There are actually two different types of volunteers active at the Speelotheek: the policy volunteers and the 'normal' volunteers. The policy volunteers are, for example, treasurer, take care of the communication of the Speelotheek or coordinate the social internship. Priscilla and I, for example, after starting out as members ourselves, eventually became policy volunteers. The rest of the volunteers are mainly busy counting. We have a total of about 950 articles and they are lent to a total of about 130 members. By counting we ensure that everything remains complete and that no one is disappointed. It would be annoying if someone borrows a game, but something crucial is missing. Although it sounds like a boring job, counting, the purpose of counting makes it a lot of fun again. The fact that the children really enjoyed it at home and then come back many more times is a great reward!” Is working at the Speelotheek right for you? The Speelotheek can use new volunteers.
