It's great to make others happy!
Dike has been active as a volunteer for several years. She works at VVV Cheese Warehouse in Woerden, Hospice De Mantelmeeuw and Yoppers Groene Hart, among others. “Why am I a volunteer? I mostly just really like it. It's nice to be around people, but also great to be able to make people happy. Plus, there are so many different things to do! For example, I am part of the organization of De Mantelmeeuw and I also help with PR. At the tourist office, of course, I do something completely different. I mainly work in the shop there. In that sense, the diversity of volunteer work really appeals to me.”
It requires a lot of dedication, but volunteering is really in me!
“Although some of my tasks as a volunteer have been reduced due to corona, I am still active as a volunteer for a few hours a week. That of course requires some dedication, but volunteering is really in me. I just don't sit still! To people who doubt whether they want to become a volunteer, I would like to say that there is actually something for everyone. Think about what makes you happy and see if you can help others with it. Double the fun for yourself and for the person you help!"
Klaas' story
That sitting still is not for me! I like it too much to be busy! Klaasje has been an active volunteer in one way or another for as long as she can remember. She is currently a hostess at community center De Plint, but she has also worked as a volunteer at the church and her husband in a choir for the elderly. “Actually, I've always been busy. Just like my husband. And that's how you kind of drag each other into it. If one is active as a volunteer, it is difficult for the other to sit still. In any case, sitting still is not for me. I like it too much to be busy. And I get a lot out of it myself. The social contact I have when I'm at De Plint on Thursday morning, which is coffee morning, is very nice. This way I stay a bit among the people and also informed about what is going on among the people. In that respect, De Plint is really the place where I belong. As long as the body allows it, I will be there every week!” Share these stories and inspire others to help too! Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Whatsapp Forward
